No big winner in $100M Powerball, setting up $150m score
An Aussie could score a record lotto win next week, with a massive $150million prize on offer.
Australians have a chance to score an eye-watering $150million jackpot next week after no one walked away with the grand prize.
Australians competed for a $100m Powerball win on Thursday night, it was the competition’s highest stakes since February’s historic $200m draw.
The May 23 draw is set to be the third highest at $150m.
If a single player wins next week’s draw it would be the single biggest Powerball win in Australian history.
There were 10 division two winners who will each enjoy a prize of $179,059.50, and 192 winners in the third division set to win $11,594.50 each.
A total of $64.4m was awarded in divisions two to nine across 3,197,881 winning tickets.
The winning numbers were 13, 9, 1, 18, 12, 2 and 14, the powerball was 3.
In the past five Powerball draws there were no division one winners either, driving up the pot to its nine-figure value.
Up to half of Australian adults were expected to enter, the Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said.
Thursday’s $100m draw is one of a growing trend in high-value prize pools, being the sixth biggest in Australian history, but only the third largest in the past five months.
Of the 20 Powerball division one winners last year, eight were from NSW, seven in Victoria, two each in South Australia and WA, and one in Queensland. That totalled to a $552m aggregated prize pool.
Powerball draw 1461 closed on Australia’s east coast at 7.30pm, with results drawn at 8.30pm.
