Tina Fey sparks debate by revealing rich person trend that she doesn’t like
Comic Tina Fey has shared her issue with a common rich person act – but not everyone online thinks she has the right to judge.
Comedian Tina Fey has sparked debate by revealing that she has a “problem with rich people” who start side hustles.
The 54-year-old Saturday Night Live alum appeared on Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Hang and shared that opinion, prompting Poehler to joke back, “Like a podcast?”
Fey responded and said, “No” because she considers a podcast creative work, but she’d draw the line at her fellow comedian starting an alcohol line.
The 54-year-old argued that she has a problem with people who have “like $200 million” that keep finding new ways to make money for the sake of it.
Poehler pointed out that Fey needed to “learn from Gen Z” because “they don’t judge it” and argued that this is normal now.
“I judge it,” Fey admitted.
Fey also resisted the idea of starting a glasses line, although Poehler encouraged the idea of her capitalising on the fact she’s become known for wearing trendy glasses.
Fey joked, “I do kind of hate money,” and added that she only wanted to earn “enough money to live” on.
A snippet from that exchange is now going viral on X, and Fey, reportedly worth over $50 million, has divided people online.
Fey drew criticism because while she’s not embraced an official side hustle, she’s advertised for brands like American Express and Booking.com.au.
Most recently, she was in a Super Bowl commercial for Booking.com.au, so she’s certainly not above doing different types of work for money.
One person commented that it was strange for her to have a “problem” with rich people and their side hustles when she’s “worth $75 million and doing commercials for money, the horror.”
“Isn’t this the same chick pushing me to get a credit card?” Another asked, referring to her previous commercial with American Express.
“When are celebrities and comedians going to learn that I don’t want their opinion? Here we are now. Entertain us,” another asked.
“I agree with her! A celebrity promoting their skin care product that they literally know nothing about is too much,” someone reasoned.
“Rich people always more! Greedy,” another declared.
“I totally agree with her,” someone else said.

Someone else on the internet said her comments made her a “hypocrite“ another declared it sounded like “jealously” and one pointed out Fey’s comments are “so important” to the current culture.
Fey’s comments come as celebrities like Selena Gomez, Rhianna, and Ryan Reynolds have all made money from side hustles.
Gomez has her beauty line Rare Beauty, Rhianna has her Fenty label empire, and Reynolds has his gin brand Aviation American Gin.
