Australians turning to side hustles amid rising living costs

Desperate Aussies are offering up hundreds of dollars for people to essentially “sit and do nothing” for a few hours, branding it “easy money” for those looking to make a few extra bucks.

The offer is being made by diehard Billie Eilish fans, who are willing to pay an extra $200 on top of their ticket price to ensure they get the best spot possible at her Australian shows.

The 23-year-old multi-Grammy winner touched down in Melbourne last week ahead of her sellout national tour.

Eilish is half way through the Aussie leg of her global Hit Me Hard and Soft tour, with two more shows left in Sydney before heading to Melbourne for her final four performances.

Fans of the pop superstar have been seen camping and lining up outside the venues in Brisbane and Sydney for days in an effort to secure a prime position for her shows.

Photos and videos have emerged showing people armed with tents, camping chairs, picnic rugs and umbrellas.

There are also fans that don’t want to spend hours or days waiting in line but still want to be as close to the stage as possible – and they are willing to pay for it.

Multiple posts have emerged on online outsourcing company, Airtasker, with concertgoers offering up cold, hard cash for people to wait in line for them.

“Need someone to sit in line for me at Qudos Bank Arena for the Billie Eilish concert! From early morning 28th Feb till about 3-4pm,” one post reads.

The poster said they were willing to offer $200 to anyone that could arrive at the venue between midnight and 4am on Friday.

One person responded and said they were “happy to assist” them, noting they have completed several line up tasks for other clients in the past.

“I submit my offer, a little more than your best budget price, to help cover my AT fees, for your consideration,” they said.

Another commenter pointed out that $200 for sitting in line between 4am and 4pm would equate to about $16 an hour.

“Getting paid to sit somewhere and do nothing, easy money if you need some extra cash,” the poster hit back.

Billie Eilish fans camp out for days ahead of Sydney concert

Another person has put up a task offering $200 to anyone who can camp outside the arena in Olympic park from Wednesday evening to Friday morning.

Someone else was offering $150 to anyone that could line up for them on Monday and another was offering $65 for anyone willing to hold their spot in the line from 6am to 9.30am for the first Sydney show.

Eilish fans have been sharing their experiences camping and lining up outside the venues.

One TikToker revealed they had been waiting in line for close to 20 hours before being let inside the venue, noting there were already more than 160 people in front of them when they arrived at Qudos Bank Arena.

Another person who was lining up for the first Sydney show revealed people had already started camping in preparation for the second show.

“I have heard some people that are going to the night one concert are going to be finishing the concert and then just coming back out and lining back up. It’s f***ing wild,” she said.

Other videos have emerged showing the rubbish fans in these lines have been leaving behind, with the ground littered with drink bottles, blankets, bags, camp chairs, umbrellas, pillows and even padded sleeping mats.

“We had to walk through their filth on the way in it was foul,” one commenter said, with another questioning how they could “get away” with leaving so much mess behind.

Eilish’s Sydney leg of the tour will wrap up on Friday night, with the Bad Guy singer then heading to Melbourne to perform another four shows at Rod Laver Arena from March 4.
