‘Pretty addicted’: Wild amount of debt 26-year-old got into while earning $30,000 a month

A young woman has revealed the wild moment she had to face just how much debt she was in, despite earning a dream monthly salary.

‘Very significant’ number of Australians missing credit card payments

Annie Charlotte was earning over $30,000 a month when she amassed over $350,000 in credit card debt.

The 26-year-old runs a successful online account where she creates X-rated content. When she first started earning a lot of money, she didn’t know how to manage it.

Ms Charlotte, who resides in London, grew up on government benefits and had previously earned minimum wage.

“I was never in debt before OnlyFans, which is crazy because I’ve never made as much as I have as I do now. In my first two years I made $1 million,” she told news.com.au.

“Once I started earning this amount I got pretty addicted to partying and spending it how I wanted to.”

Ms Charlotte admitted she got into the habit of spending thousands over a weekend on going out and partying.

She also started forking out thousands on designer clothes and accessories and quickly got in over her head.

“I just kept spending and spending and not thinking about where the money was coming from, and I started racking up credit card debt quickly,” she said.

“I didn’t realise how much debt I was going into because the money was flowing.”

Eventually, the debt caught up with Ms Charlotte and she was forced to face the fact that owed over $350,000.

That reality wasn’t easy to stomach.

“I’ve been stressed for a long time about it. I had a massive dip where I stopped making money because I got super depressed about how much debt I was in,” she said.

Ms Charlotte became particularly anxious when, due to a few things out of her control, her income ended up halving for a period of time.

This really made her understand just how much her debt was impacting her life.

“I kind of got really depressed and stressed, which made me work less. Now I’m feeling better and I’m in the right headspace, and I’m getting a grip on sorting out all my credit card debt,” she said.

The 26-year-old said she now has a solid financial plan in place and is working towards becoming debt-free, but it is a process.

“Now I’m just paying it all back, slowly but surely, and I’m making more money because I’m working harder and feel less stressed about money,” she said.

“It’s crazy that the more stressed you are about money, it seems like the less you make, because you just stress about it.”

Ms Charlotte said she’s now very much living within her means and trying to stay financially disciplined.

“I don’t really buy anything designer. My house does cost me quite a lot in rent, as I live by myself, so bills and everything cost a lot,” she said.

“I am slowly paying it back and working super hard to pay back as much as I can and still afford to live.”
