TALK about keeping your fingers crossed. This man has insured two of his digits for a whopping sum, and not without reason.
TALK about keeping your fingers crossed!
A paintball enthusiast has insured his trigger fingers for a whopping £100,000 ($A200,000).
Ronnie Hollington, 34, has insured his right and left index fingers to make sure he can continue playing paintball for the rest of his life.
Ronnie, from Romford, runs Mayhem Paintball in Essex and knows that the use of his trigger fingers are absolutely key to him earning a living.
“I added my trigger fingers to the insurance policy because without them my career would be over,” he said.
“To me they’re the most essential body part so even the thought of losing them is frightening: without them I can’t do my job.”
Ronnie, who added his fingers to his policy last week, is married to wife Clare, 28, and has an 18-month-old daughter called Lilly.
“£100,000 is a lot of money so I’m hoping Clare won’t chop my fingers off to pocket the dough!,” he said.
“I didn’t tell her about it at first and I’d definitely prefer to keep my fingers than be paid the money but knowing they’re insured makes me feel a bit more comfortable.
“The insurance doesn’t make my fingers safer but it’s nice to know I would receive a payout if I lost them.”
Ronnie played the sport as part of the England team at the age of 16 and has even represented his country in Europe and the United States.
His Dad, Robert, set up Mayhem Paintball in 1987 on the site of the old Hollington family farm in Essex and it’s now one of the biggest and most successful in UK paintballing.
Ronnie said: “Paintball means everything to me, it is all I have known since I was 12 years old.
“The adrenaline rush when people are shooting back at you is incredible.
“There’s nothing else quite like it, it’s been part of my life for so long I can’t imagine how it would be without it.
“I’ve always loved team sports and paintball in particular is one where you need to work together or you will lose.
“At Mayhem, we cater for customers from every walk of life: celebrities, children’s birthday parties and some of the largest blue chip corporations in the world.
“Now that I’ve had my trigger fingers insured, I’m a lot more confident we can continue to do that.”
Gary Whips, on behalf of W. R. Berkley Insurance, said: “Ronnie insured his trigger fingers with us as part of his personal accident cover.
“In the event of an accident involving his fingers, Ronnie would receive damages of up to £100,000.”
