DOCTORS and health professionals have called on London Mayor Sadiq Khan to ban all diesel cars from the UK capital.

HERE are seven things making news in business and finance today.

1. SYDNEY — The Australian dollar is lower against its US counterpart, which has continued to hold firm against major currencies. At 0730 AEDT on Monday, the local unit was trading at 74.58 US cents, down from 74.65 cents on Friday.

2. SYDNEY — The Australian share market is set to open higher, following the leads from equity markets in the US and Europe, which continued to make gains on Friday in the post-Trump-election rally. At 0645 AEDT on Monday, the local share price index was up 23 points, or 0.41 per cent, at 5,582.

3. VIENNA — Eleven non-OPEC producers have agreed at a summit in Vienna to reduce oil output by 558,000 barrels per day, pushing the total production cut by OPEC and non-OPEC members to 1.7 million bpd of crude.

4. LONDON — Opponents to Britain leaving the European Union will launch a fresh legal action this week, which could further hamper Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit plans, The Sunday Times reports.

5. DUBAI — IranAir says it has signed a deal to buy 80 passenger planes from US aircraft maker Boeing, state news agency IRNA reports, in the biggest US-Iran deal since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

6. LONDON — Some shareholders are unhappy about the terms of a preliminary deal struck by Rupert Murdoch’s Twenty-First Century Fox to take over British pay-TV Sky, the Sunday Telegraph newspaper reports.
