At 0645 AEDT on Thursday, the December share price index futures contract was down 33 points at 5,048.
Locally, in economic news on Thursday, the Australian Bureau of Statistics releases labour force data for November, while the ACCI-Westpac Survey of Industrial Trends for the December quarter is also due out.
No major equities news is expected.
In Australia, the market on Wednesday closed lower with investors worried about global growth prospects and falling commodities prices.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 28.1 points, or 0.55 per cent, at 5,080.5.
The broader All Ordinaries index was down 28.1 points, or 0.54 per cent, at 5,129.9.
