THE Australian dollar is higher amid a turnaround in global market sentiment following gains in Chinese stocks and most commodities.

THE Australian dollar is higher amid a turnaround in global market sentiment following gains in Chinese stocks and most commodities.

At 0630 AEDT on Friday, the local unit was trading at 69.84 US cents, up from 69.42 cents on Thursday.

The Aussie outperformed most major currencies overnight after slipping to a four-month low of 69.10 US cents during the London morning session.

* 69.84 US cents, from 69.42 cents on Thursday

* 82.56 Japanese yen, from 81.65 yen

* 64.31 euro cents, from 63.81 euro cents
