WARNING: Strong language

THIS Uber driver picked the wrong couple to mess with when he launched into a homophobic rant.

Lucy Thomas and her girlfriend Chelsea Lang were subjected to an offensive tirade during their Uber ride in Melbourne on the weekend.

Ms Thomas, who is the chief executive of youth anti-bullying and hate organisation Project Rockit, not only stood up to the driver’s aggression — but managed to record and post it on Twitter.

“Why do you think it’s okay to use terms like ‘faggot, abbo, spastic, retard, while you’re driving an Uber?” Ms Thomas can be heard asking. “Why do you think that’s okay?”

The driver responds: “I can do anything I want, if I am prepared to suffer the consequences.”

After being asked “are you prepared to suffer the consequences?” the driver explodes.

“What, are you going to give me a ‘one’ rating and make a complaint? And when I make my report about two faggots who don’t like being called faggots, then what are they gonna say?”

Ms Thomas asks how the driver thinks Uber management will react to the scenario.

“I don’t care ... Why would I?”

After Ms Thomas suggests that his homophobic comments are “hurting people”, the driver responds with incredulity.

“I’m hurting people? Get out of the car ... If you don’t, I’ll get out and drag you out.”

A standoff ensues, with the driver threatening to call the police before the girls eventually make their exit.

Uber promptly banned the driver from using its platform after Ms Thomas made an official complaint.

A spokesman for the ridesharing service said in a statement: “Uber does not tolerate any form of discrimination, and we have been in contact this rider to offer our support. As soon as we were made aware of this incident, we removed the driver from the platform.”

Uber’s non-discrimination policy prohibits discrimination based on race, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, sex, marital status, gender identity, age or any other characteristic protected under applicable federal or state law.
