Uber driver shares how Aussie passengers can boost rating

One of Australia’s top rated Uber drivers has revealed the way passengers can lose or gain a coveted 5-star rating on the app.

Gig economy seeks new safety standards

For countless Aussies, hopping in and out of Ubers is a staple part of their weekly routine.

And if you’re one of many hoping to speed up pick up times by clinching a coveted five-star rating, it might be easier than expected.

One of Australia’s top rated drivers Catia, who works across Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, said her passengers were generally well behaved.

“Greeting a driver and being prompt when the Uber arrives is really important,” she said.

“And if it’s a short trip it can be good to apologise to your driver. For me, I don’t mind but some drivers would appreciate that.”

“Certainly don’t leave any mess in the car and try and be outside ready and waiting or at least message to say you’re on your way — that makes it a lot easier.

“Ultimately it just comes down to respect.”

In terms of what makes good driver, Catia believes the recipe for success is a simple one.

“It all comes down to communication,” she said.

“Definitely greeting your passengers when they enter the car and just being friendly and being in a bubbly, good mood definitely helps!”

She also said being open to an array of passenger requests can improve the experience for all parties.

“I’m one of those drivers that is very flexible with what passengers want — whether that’s picking up friends or stopping by Macca’s on the way somewhere.”

Since the first Uber ride in Sydney in 2012, Aussies have taken more than 700 million Uber rides and ordered more than 450 million meals via Uber Eats.

The platform has also provided flexible earning opportunities for more than 725,000 drivers and delivery partners.
