Sacked chef Jim Knight takes revenge against The Plough pub via its own social media page
THEY say revenge is sweet. But one sacked chef took things to a whole new level after he told the world about his sacking via his ex-employer's social media account.
A CHEF who was sacked after allegedly refusing to work Christmas Day has served up the ultimate revenge by posting a series of tweets from his former employer's twitter account.
Jim Knight was fired for refusing to work on what is expected to be one of the busiest days of the year at the The Plough pub, in Oxfordshire.
But the 28-year-old soon took matters into his own hands and posted a series of tweets from the venue's twitter account.
The Plough's Twitter profile message read "Let this be a lesson to all bad catering employers" but has now been changed and seems at odds with earlier feeds about roasts of the day and upcoming events.
Mr Knight, who says he didn't 'hijack' the account as he was the one who created it in the first place, began the tweets fairly innocently enough.
Happy Christmas everyone
We'd like to inform you that we've just fired our head chef.
But then things started to turn a little more serious as he reveals the sacking incident.
Unfortunately he wanted to have a weekend off this month and Christmas Day this year for family commitments so we thought we'd sack him
Yeah a week before Christmas!
We don't care that he has a 7 1/2 month old baby daughter.
Knight then goes on to criticise the type of food served before claiming it was purchased from budget supermarket chain Asda.
So anyway come on down and continue to pay a premium for Australian sirloins, New Zealand lamb and everything else that is bought from asda.
Happy Christmas everyone!!!!!!
The pub confirmed to the BBC that Knight was dismissed "following a disagreement over Christmas Day working" hours.
Pub boss Steve Potts remains unrepentant over the firing and said the food quality claims were rubbish.
"The implied suggestion that we are buying cheap meat and passing it off at a premium is, frankly, outrageous and untrue," he said.
Mr Potts said Mr Knight had been told he was expected to work on Christmas when he was hired two months ago and that he was left with little choice but to sack him.
Despite the publicity, the tweets have still not been deleted from the account which Mr Knight said was created with his former employer's permission.
I would like to make it CRYSTAL CLEAR I have not "hacked" any account. I created the account with permission of my ex-employers. Night x
Life seems to have improved for Mr Knight who has not only generated a new Twitter following but also a new job.
Wow that took off quickly.
Right, night everyone. Thank you for the kind words. I had no idea this would escalate so quickly. See you in the job centre tomorrow. X
I have very kindly been offered a serious job offer directly off the back of this twitter storm. More info to follow x
He stands by his comments, despite his boss's reply.
Well a reply statement was inevitable. I stand by my comments whole heartedly.
The sacked chef's actions have drawn a raft of support in the twittersphere from those who saw the move as a win for hospitality workers.
@chefjimknight its my daughters as well.and Im not missing it either.nice one chef
@chefjimknight Welcome to The Shepherd's Crook Jim - your misfortune is our very good fortune!!! Enjoy your Xmas Day with your new baby!!
@chefjimknight I don't know you sir but I am inspired by your tale. Congrats on the new gig and go create great food. #ChefLife
And it seems to have generated extra publicity for at least one other pub which shares the same name, albeit in a different country.
The family run and owned The Plough Inn set in the picturesque village of Hillsborough, country Down, Ireland, has also received a few tweets about the incident.
But as it makes clear its head chef is still very much employed and even has Christmas Day off to boot.
@CallieScarlett @Maplestead4 Oxfordshire I think!!
We would like to confirm we have not sacked our head chef & he has Christmas Day off this year!! ;-) #ploughpub #anotherplough #hillsborough
