Selwyn Snow Resort damaged by NSW bushfires
A popular ski resort in NSW has been severely damaged by fires that tore through the Snowy Mountains on Saturday.
The Selwyn Snow Resort in the NSW Snowy Mountains has suffered extensive damage as a result of recent fires.
The resort located about seven hours drive south of Sydney sustained severe damage to its resort buildings, although it’s not yet know whether its 10 ski lifts and snow-making machines were damaged.
Selwyn, which markets itself as a great place for beginners to learn to ski, was impacted by fires in the Snowy Mountains on Saturday.
In a Facebook post, the resort said its managers Blyton Group were committed to the resort and would focus on rebuilding an even better Selwyn.
It said the damage had been discovered after NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service staff were able to access the resort on Sunday.
Photos show badly burnt out buildings, with many expressing shock and sadness at the damage.
“Devastating … lots of fun there when the kids were little … my kids learnt to ski there,” one person commented.
Several fires caused destruction in the Snowy Mountains and Kosciuszko National Park over the weekend, and a number of fires still burning in the area.
Areas thought to be hardest hit by fires on Saturday included nearby Bundanoon, Wingello, Batlow, Adelong, the Jervis Bay area, Boydtown, Kiah, Wonboyn, Towamba and Cabramurra.
