Woolworths IT systems are ‘down down’ in Metro stores nationwide

Frustrated customers were forced to ditch their shopping this afternoon after an IT outage struck multiple stores.

If you were at a Woolies across Australia on Thursday afternoon, you may have spent longer at the self checkout than you would have expected.

Woolworth stores across the country are currently experiencing an IT systems outage which has left hundreds of customers unable to complete their shop.

The outage is understood to have struck stores around 3pm, with frustrated customers quickly taking to social media to report the issue.

A spokesperson from the major supermarket said only a small number of stores were affected.

“We’re currently experiencing an IT issue affecting checkouts in approximately 30 stores. The majority of those are in our Metro-branded stores,” they said.

“We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

The spokesperson confirmed there were no issues with the Woolworths website.

“We apologise to our customers in those impacted stores for the inconvenience and thank them for their patience as we work through this IT issue.”
