WOOLWORTHS has issued a scam warning after customers received emails posing as customer satisfaction surveys.

A number of shoppers posted screenshots on the retailer’s Facebook page asking whether the survey, topped with the Woolworths logo, is real.

“Is this a legitimate email and survey?” one customer posted. “The other part is asking for my credit card details.”

The scam email, which did not come from Woolworths, reads:

“Congratulations! You have been selected by Woolworths Online Department to take part in our quick and easy survey. In return we will credit $50 to your account — just for your time!”

It then invites the email to click on a link to complete the form. This takes them to a screen where they are asked to fill out their name, address and credit card details.

“Wondering why you got this email?” the email continues.

“Helping us better understand how our members feel, benefits everyone. With the information collected we can decide to direct a number of changes to improve and expand our services.

The information you provide to us is all non-sensitive and anonymous. No part of it is handed to any third party groups. It will be stored in our secure database for maximum of 3 days while we process the results of the nationwide survey.”

Hmm, we doubt it.

A Woolworths spokesman said its staff would never ask customers for their personal or banking details in an unsolicited email.

“Customers should always be aware of online ‘phishing’ scams which imitate well-known brands, including Woolworths, to try and collect your personal information,” the spokesman said.

“We report all scams to the ACCC’s SCAM Watch and regularly post warnings on our Facebook page and website to alert our valued customers.”

Some other scams doing the rounds include people imitating Centrelink officers and online dating scammers.

Woolworths customers with concerns can phone 1300 767 969.
