BIG W boss Alistair McGeorge has resigned, citing health reasons, as his employer reveals it has investigated a complaint about his behaviour.

In a statement, Big W’s parent company Woolworths said Mr McGeorge had resigned with immediate effect due to health reasons. It also said the company had investigated a complaint about his “verbal” behaviour in the workplace.

“This complaint has been investigated and finalised, and for legal reasons we are unable to make any further comment on this matter,” the company said in a statement on Friday.

Woolworths, which is due to release its full-year results next Friday, has appointed Penny Winn to lead the company while it searches for a replacement.

It’s the latest in a string of high-level departures from the troubled retail giant, most notably CEO Grant O’Brien, who announced his retirement in June after continued disappointing sales results.
