Woman fumes at 78 cent bill from previous tenant’s underpaid invoice

A Sydney woman has vented her anger at being harassed over an unpaid electricity bill for an obscenely low amount.

Gas and electricity demand hitting ‘record highs’ in Victoria

A furious woman has taken aim at electricity provider Dodo for “harassing” her over an energy invoice underpaid by less than one dollar by the previous tenant.

Since moving into the Sydney apartment just two months ago, she had received three notices concerning the “outrageous debt” of just 78 cents.

“Who the a*sing f*** is running this company?” she wrote in a fuming post to Facebook on Friday, answering her own question: “A pack of f**kin dodos”.

“I’ve been in this apartment two months, this is the third – that’s THREE – letter of demand for the outrageous debt of 78 cents owed by the former tenant,” she wrote.

The woman speculated it would have cost the company a lot more that 78 cents to send the letters.

“It’s cost them a sh**tonne more than that in postal costs, let alone the wages of the person I gave an ear bashing to,” she wrote, instructing the company to “bog off”.

The woman attached a photo of the “overdue final electricity account” in question, which demanded the invoice be settled by July 19.

“This notice is to advise you that your final electricity amount remains unpaid and is overdue, as a result of your Pay on Time discount has been removed and the total amount of $00.78 is now overdue,” the letter read.

“We understand that payments can be missed for a variety of reasons but you need to pay your final account by 19/07/2022 to avoid further action.

“If your final account remains unpaid, this account may be referred to the Third Party Collection Agency for recovery action, which may result in further costs to you.”

The company’s act caused others to react similarly to the new tenant, with many in disbelief at its persistence.

The woman clarified in a comment she called Dodo after receiving the invoice for a second time, but it seemed her effort had been wasted.

“I have called them after the second letter to inform them the dude was no longer living here. They wanted to know my name … and eventually said they’d fix it up,” she wrote.

“Maybe they thought they’d give it one last go – after all, it’s the princely sum of 78 cents at stake! Next time I will demand recompense.”

Dodo has been contacted by news.com.au and is yet to respond.
