Kings Birthday public holiday opening hours: Coles, Woolworths, IGA and Kmart

Australia is observing its first King’s Birthday public holiday in 70 years — this is what’s open across the nation today.

This year the country will observe its first King’s Birthday public holiday in 70 years, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September last year.

While more shops close their doors over Easter and Christmas holidays, Monday will still bring reduced trading hours for the states and territories that observe the public holiday.

Western Australia and Queensland both celebrate the Sovereign’s Birthday later in the year.

As it’s never nice to be caught out needing some essential items, read on for a run-down on where you can do any last-minute shopping.

Coles

• VIC: standard trading hours
• NSW/ACT: standard trading hours except for the following stores:
  • Newcastle Junction, Medowie: 7am-8pm
  • Wynyard: 8am-8pm
    
  • Maroubra Junction, Eastgardens, Casula: 7am-10pm
    
  • Ingleburn, Wattle Grove: 7am-9pm
    
• TAS: standard trading hours
• NT:
  • Palmerston, Casuarina: 8am-8pm
  • Alice Springs: 8am-7pm
    
  • Palmerston, Darwin CBD, Coolalinga: 8am-8pm
    
• SA: all supermarkets closed except for the following stores:
  • Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Berri, Port Augusta, Mount Barker, Whyalla, Murray Bridge Green, Mount Gambier, Victor Harbor: 8am-8pm
  • Adelaide Rundle Place: 11am-5pm.

Woolworths

While these are general indicators of the opening hours for individual stores, customers should check their local Woolworths store opening hours online.

• VIC: all stores open
• NSW/ACT: all stores open
• TAS: all stores open
• NT: all stores open
• SA: Rundle Mall and regional stores open, Millicent and Adelaide metropolitan stores closed.

Aldi and IGA

Most Aldi stores will operate as usual, although customers are encouraged to check the online store locator for the opening hours of their local store.

As IGA stores are independently-owned, the hours will differ between stores — some stores will be trading as normal while others may have restricted hours. IGA customers can check trading hours with their local IGA or online.

Kmart

• VIC: all stores open between 8-10am and close between 5-9pm, except for 24hr stores which remain open as usual
  
• NSW/ACT: all stores open between 7-10am and close between 4-9pm, except for 24hr stores which remain open as usual
• TAS: 24hr stores remain open as usual
  • Rosny and Burnie open 8am-6pm
  • Devonport open 8am-8pm
• NT: all stores open 9am-6pm
• SA: all stores open 9am-5pm except for the following:
  • Rundle Mall is open 11am-5pm
  • Ingle Farm, Kurralta Park, West Lakes, Port Noarlunga, Port Adelaide, Marion and Churchill will be closed.

  • Tuggerah, Eastgardens, Hornsby, Liverpool, Mt Druitt, Penrith and Warringah Mall will trade from 10am-5pm
  • Mt Druitt Dining Precinct open from 11am-late
  • Bondi Junction, Burwood, Chatswood, Hurstville, Miranda and Parramatta will trade from 10am-6pm
  • Sydney and Sydney Central Plaza will trade from 10am-7pm
• SA: all stores are closed.
