It might be a public holiday for some, but shoppers looking to find a bargain might be in luck as some major retailers will remain open on Australia Day.

What do Aussies think of Woolies’ big Australia Day move?

As millions of Aussies take advantage of the Australia Day public holiday, many businesses will be opening their doors hoping to get people in store on Friday.

The last public holiday of the summer means lots of people will be hoping to enjoy a barbecue or a day at the beach if the weather permits it.

But for those who forgot to buy the extra bread rolls or need a pair of thongs to wear, there’s plenty of shops open.

Here’s the list:

Woolworths

The majority of Woolies stores across the country will remain open on Australia Day with some exceptions.

All stores will be open in South Australia and Tasmania.

A Woolworths spokesman confirmed most stores will be open in Victoria, NSW, the NT and the ACT.

In Queensland, all stores will be open except Charters Towers, Bowen and Ayr which will be closing at 2pm on Thursday as Cyclone Kirrily accelerates towards the region.

In Western Australia, all stores are open except in Esperance and Katanning.

Customers are being encouraged to check individual supermarkets’ trading hours to ensure they don’t miss out.

Coles

All Coles stores will be open across the country except in South Australia, where most stores will be closed.

However, those stores in Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Berri, Port Augusta, Mount Barker, Adelaide Rundle Place, Whyalla, Murray Bridge Green, Mount Gambier and Victor Harbor will remain open on Friday.

Coles is encouraging people to check the website for individual store trading hours.

Aldi

Most Aldi stores across Australia will open on Australia Day but will be closing earlier at 8pm nationwide.

Customers should check the Aldi website to confirm opening times for all stores.

BWS, Dan Murphy’s and Vintage Cellars will also be open for trading on Friday.

However, specific opening hours will vary from store to store in each state.

Liquorland stores in South Australia will be closed on Friday, except for Collinswood, Unley, Ingle Farm, Kurralta Park, North Haven, Hindmarsh, Victor Harbor, Reynella, Port Lincoln, Murray Bridge, Grand Junction Drive Thru, Mount Gambier, Aberfoyle Park, Brighton Drive Thru, Western Tavern Drive Thru, Waterloo Drive, Golden Grove, Victor Harbour McCracken, Whyalla Westlands, Rundle Mall, Port Augusta, Mount Barker and Berri.

BIG W

All BIG W stores will be open on Australia Day, excluding BIG W Kingaroy in Queensland

Customers are being encouraged to check for any revised opening hours of their local BIG W online.

Target

Target stores will be open in every state except South Australia on Friday.

South Australian shoppers will have to shop in-store another day, as all Target stores will be closed on Australia Day except the Target Centrepoint store.

Kmart

In most states, all Kmart stores will remain open on Australia Day, with varying trading hours.

In South Australia, several Kmart stores will be closed including Firle, Tea Tree, Munno Para, Ingle Farm, Kurralta Park, West Lakes, Port Noarlunga, Port Adelaide, and Churchill.

The remainder of stores in South Australia will be open for business.

In NSW, all stores will be open except for Stanhope Gardens store which will be closing permanently the day before Australia Day.

The Esperance Khub in WA will also be closed on Friday.

Anyone hoping to grab a bargain, should check the website for individual trading hours.

It’s good news for anyone wanting to DIY on Friday.

All Bunnings stores in every state and territory will stay open this Australia Day.

However, customers should check the website for individual store opening hours.

Meanwhile, all banks will be closed on Australia Day.
