Walmart sorry for making IS cake
WELL this is awkward. A baker has been forced to apologise after making a cake for a customer with an incredibly inappropriate design.
A MAN in the US has demanded an explanation from retailer Walmart after one of its bakeries refused to make him a cake with the Confederate flag, but accepted a design with the black flag of terrorist group Islamic State.
Chuck Netzhammer said his original design of a Confederate flag with the words ‘Heritage Not Hate’ was denied. To test the policy, he later resubmitted an image of the IS flag, which the bakery agreed to make.
“I went back yesterday and managed to get an IS battle flag printed. IS happens to be somebody who we’re fighting against right now who are killing our men and boys overseas and are beheading Christians,” Netzhammer said in a YouTube video.
“That’s an IS battle flag cake that anybody can go buy at Walmart, but you can’t buy a Confederate flag toy like a Dukes of Hazzard car.”
Walmart and a number of other major retailers including Amazon, Etsy and eBay banned sales of the controversial flag following the massacre of nine African Americans in Charleston, Texas earlier this month.
In a statement to ABC News, Walmart said: “An associate in a local store did not know what the design meant and made a mistake. The cake should not have been made and we apologise.”
