Woolworths slammed for ‘deluxe’ Christmas bon bons
The “deluxe” Christmas buy, which costs $15, has left customers disappointed.
A box of “deluxe” Christmas bon bons sold at Woolworths has been slammed for the lacklustre contents of the paper crackers.
The six pack of bon bons retails for $15 and contains some truly bizarre prizes.
True crime author Roy Maloy took to TikTok to slam the typically festive purchase.
“If price gouging wasn’t enough,” he said in the caption.
“I’m at Woolworths and it’s the beginning of November, a couple of months before Christmas,” he begins in the video.
“Let me show you what’s in these Bon Bons.”
Turning the box over, it becomes clear that the possible ‘prizes’ are displayed on the outside of the box for consumers to peruse.
“So there’s a spring with a paperclip, there’s what I presume is a bookmark, I have no idea what that is – I think it’s a piece of string, a padlock,” Mr Maloy said.
“It’s a Christmas morning and you pull your cracker and you get tweezers.”
Woolworths describes the product online as being “perfect for a fun filled celebration”, with each bon bon containing a hat, joke and “gift”.
Other bon bon prizes up for grabs included a key ring and a bottle opener.
“But this is literally one of the prizes,” Mr Maloy continued.
“A bulldog clip.”
Christmas bon bons normally contain paper hats, jokes, puzzles and games, and are traditionally pulled during Christmas dinner or at Christmas parties.
Woolworths declined to comment on the crackers, but noted that since last Christmas their bon bons have only contained plastic-free prizes.
The retailer said the Bon Bons and all Christmas general merchandise are also free of glitter.
Woolworths posted a $1.62bn profit for the 12 months to June 2023, despite consumers continuing to struggle as the cost of everyday items remains high.
