Target reveals when Australian stores will close or convert to Kmart

The dates have been decided on when Target branches will be shuttered, with sales expected to clear stock.

Several Target stores to close in Queensland in the coming weeks

A number of Target stores will close giving people the opportunity to snap up a bargain with expected clearance sales ahead of doors being shuttered.

Owners of Target, Wesfarmers, confirmed dates for stores across Queensland that will be shutting down.

The store closures include Longreach on April 10, Clifton Beach in Cairns on April 17 and Kippa-Ring, north of Brisbane on April 24, reported The Courier Mail.

In Cairns, stores will close on May 1, while The Willows in Townsville is set to shut on June 5.

Wesfarmers flagged closures in May 2020, announcing that 75 Target stores would permanently close. The company said the move was necessary to improve the commercial viability of the business.

Around 55 Target branches around Australia are expected to be converted into Kmart outlets this year. It comes after 16 Target outlets already went through transformations into Kmarts in 2020.

However, Target stores in the Calboolture district have been saved from the cut and will continue to operate.

A Target spokeswoman said the Kippa-Ring team’s wellbeing is a priority during the process.

“Our focus is on supporting our team through this time as we work through finding suitable redeployment without other Wesfarmers businesses as well as with other employers in town,” she said.
