An LED light sold at Bunnings for almost three years is being urgently recalled over concerns it could pose a serious safety risk.

Customers who have bought a Brilliant Lighting Lagos 90w LED slim batten 1200mm linear lighting fixture are being asked to immediately unplug it and return the product.

The defects relate to the LED components of the light that could overheat and cause it to distort, melt or even catch fire.

If it does catch fire, it could cause serious injuries, death or property damage.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says the default is causing significant concern for the safety of users.

The affected model number is 21001/05, including batch numbers VR2821 and VR3821.

The units were sold nationally, internationally and online at Bunnings between December 2019 and September 2022.

Consumers are being urged to immediately stop using the light fitting.

“If the product is connected by a plug, remove it and return the product to the nearest Bunnings store for a refund,” a statement said.

“If the product is hardwired and requires an electrician to remove it, contact Brilliant Lighting to make arrangements for a service call to remove and replace the product with a similar fixture or to provide a refund.”
