Queen’s birthday long weekend opening hours for Aussie retailers, bottle shops, and cinemas

Aussie retailers are changing their trading hours this long weekend. Don’t get caught out, here’s everything you need to know.

We love a long weekend as much as the next person – an extra day off for a quick getaway, a sleep in, much-needed R & R.

But it also seems like the prime time for needing to make last-minute dashes to the shops - when most of them have closed their doors.

To save you getting caught out, we’ve put together a comprehensive list of opening hours for all the major Aussie retailers you could possibly need to visit over this long weekend.

Woolworths

Woolworths supermarkets in states observing the long weekend will be open, however hours may differ slightly between states and local stores.

In Victoria, NSW, South Australia, and Tasmania, most Woolies supermarkets will be open from 7am-10pm each day. In the Northern Territory and ACT, many will be open from 7am-9pm. You can find your local store’s trading hours here.

Coles

Coles supermarkets will also be open across observing states. In Victoria, NSW, South Australia, and Tasmania many Coles supermarkets will be open between 7am and 10pm. Coles stores in the ACT will be open from 7am-11pm.

In the Northern Territory, many Coles supermarkets will still open at 7am, but close at 7pm. Local store hours may differ, find your local’s trading hours here.

ALDI

ALDI won’t be taking the long weekend off, with all stores in Victoria, NSW, South Australia and the ACT open – many from 8:30am. Most, across all states, will close at 8pm, while some in the ACT will close at 7pm.

Dan Murphy & BWS

All Dan Murphy’s and BWS stores will operate over the long weekend, but some will be operating at reduced hours that will vary store-to-store. Find the hours of your local BWS, here, and Dan Murphy’s, here.

Target

Target stores will continue to operate across all long weekend-observing states, with most opening at 9am on Monday. Although individual store hours may vary, many Victorian, NSW, and Tasmanian stores will close at 6pm, while those in South Australia will close at 7pm, 5:30pm in the ACT, and 5pm in the Northern Territory. Kmart

All Kmart stores in Victoria, NSW, and Tasmania will be open for the long weekend, many from 8am until 10pm. But in South Australia, many will be closed. A few major outlets will be open however, including Rundle Mall in the CBD, from 11am-5pm. Check here for your local store’s trading hours.

Big W

South Australian Big W stores will be closed on Monday, but the show will go on in all other states. Trading hours at individual locations may vary, but many Big W stores in NSW, the Northern Territory and the ACT will be open from 9am-5pm, while Victorian stores will open an hour later at 10am (and close at 5pm). David Jones

It’s business as usual at David Jones, but stores will open up to an hour and a half later than usual on Monday.

All Victorian, NSW, and ACT DJ stores will open at 10am; but the Adelaide Central Plaza (the only one open in South Australia that day) store will open at 11am. The majority will operate until 5pm – although a handful across observing states will stay open until 6pm, and another few will close at 4pm. You can check your local store’s trading hours here.

Bunnings

All Bunnings Warehouses will be open for your DIY needs over the long weekend but on Monday public holiday trading hours will apply. Many Bunnings stores in Victoria, NSW, the Northern Territory, and ACT will open from 7am on Monday and close at 7pm.

Tasmanian Bunnings’ will operate from 8am-6pm, while South Autralian Bunnings’ are expected to be open 9am-5pm. Again, check your nearest location’s trading hours here.

HOYTS Cinemas

Hoyts cinemas will be operating as usual across the country over the long weekend, with a number of blockbusters opening just in time for the Queen’s birthday. You can check session times at your nearest HOYTS here.

Event Cinemas

Event Cinemas will also be open at usual hours over the long weekend --- opening 15 minutes before the first advertised session. Find the most up-to-date session times at your local Event Cinema location online.
