McDONALD’S has been slammed after banning customers from ordering food while shirtless and barefoot as a “courtesy” to its other patrons.

An outlet in Melbourne’s north has been accused of double standards after the company aired commercials showcasing shirtless surfers flaunting their abs and customers approaching the store in barefoot.

The Oak Park branch, near a swimming pool, has replaced a previous sign that said “no shirt, no shoes, no service” with a more polite version, after inquiries were made by the Herald Sun. The new sign reads: “For the comfort of all customers we request shirts and shoes to be worn when in store please.”

But some patrons have been outraged, saying that McDonald’s is no fine-dining restaurant and management should be more relaxed.

“McDonald’s is becoming oversensitive, a dress code has never been an issue in the past,” said customer Timothy Wells. “Will thongs be inappropriate next?”

McDonald’s in Oak Park declined to comment.
