Major retailers forced to pull Hasbro game over safety issue

A popular children’s toy has been pulled from shelves only days before Christmas amid growing safety concerns.

A popular toy has been recalled amid fears it could cause serious injury to children.

Hasbro’s Elefun Flyers game was pulled from shelves at major retailers, only days before it was expected to be a popular Christmas gift to kids.

The game encourages children to stomp on the elephant’s tail to launch round disks, called butterfly flyers, into the air, which players then try to catch with nets.

The ACCC issued its recall notice for the game on December 15, warning that the butterfly flyers may cause skin abrasions or bruising.

“The butterfly flyers may strike a child in the face,” the recall notice said, warning of a risk of facial injury as a result.

No other Elefun games were affected by the recall, the ACCC confirmed.

The toy was sold across Australia by Big W, Target and Mr Toys, as well as online at Amazon and in store at a number of other retailers.

The regulator urged consumers to return the toy to its place of purchase in exchange for a full refund.
