A SHOPPER has discovered a maggot in a jar of food from Aldi, the latest in a series of such incidents to hit the popular German discount chain.

The Herald Sun reports Melbourne woman Theone Cheong, 65, returned to the new Aldi store in Cheltenham on Sunday with a jar of Hak red cabbage with a live maggot still wriggling on top.

She said it was the second time she had discovered maggots inside Aldi food after previously finding contaminated eggs. “I thought it was a one-off but this is the last straw,” she told the Herald Sun.

An Aldi spokesperson confirmed a shipment of red cabbage had been sent for testing but said it was an “isolated case”.

It comes a day after Aldi took out the top award in consumer research company Cantar Blue’s customer satisfaction awards.
