Fast-food giant Hungry Jack’s has announced a nationwide rollout of barista-made coffee under the banner of Jack’s Cafe.

Jack’s Cafe will open up across 410 stores following an ever-increasing appetite for coffee in Australia, with data revealing Aussies consumed around 2kg per person on average in 2021.

“We all know how much Australians love their coffee, and quality barista-made coffee isn’t just a ‘nice to have’, it is an expectation from our customers,” Hungry Jack’s chief executive Chris Green said.

A Hungry Jack’s statement said the $20m investment had poured funds into state-of-the-art equipment and rigorous training in order to deliver the “best coffee experience possible”.

The bold move, which includes the rollout of hot drinks, comes after Hungry Jack’s found coffee to be the third most ordered item on its breakfast menu.

Jack’s Cafe aims to deliver a signature blend that combines arabica beans from Papua New Guinea and Costa Rica, adding to the nation’s coffee imports that have more than doubled in the last decade.

In Australia, cafes, restaurants and takeaway services contribute more than $4.5bn in gross value to the economy, with the most popular cup sold being a latte followed by a flat white and cappuccino.

Recent Statista data suggests Australians like their coffee to go, with around 23 per cent of all coffee orders consumed for takeaway.

The move follows in the footsteps of fast-food rival McDonald’s, which has been serving up coffee in its McCafe outlets for almost 20 years.

In May, McDonald’s announced the launch of their exclusive coffee brand “The Australiano”, which was made available to consumers for a limited time.
