MORE men have landed on the moon than been an official Ronald McDonald. So when a retired Ronald McDonald reveals what it’s really like to be the world’s most famous clown, you can be sure he’ll have something interesting to say.

Joe Maggard was an official Ronald McDonald from 1995 to 2007, and participated in the I Was Ronald documentary, created by The Guardian.

Here are some of the best bits:

● When kids would stomp on his big red shoes — don’t call them boots — Joe would “give the little bastards a rap on the cheek”

● The Ronald makeup takes three hours to apply. Good thing all-day Macca’s breakfast is a thing now

● Joe still keeps the Ronald suit in his cupboard. “Like any superhero, he’s ready at a moment’s notice.” Nice work, Superman. Just don’t get supersized.
