Huge change coming to Kmart as in-store Afterpay launched across Australian shops

Aussie shoppers are in for a huge shock, with a massive change confirmed for in-store purchases across Kmart stores.

A huge change is coming to Kmart ahead of Christmas shopping, with the retail giant now accepting in-store Afterpay.

The buy now, pay later service confirmed the in-store offer had been rolled out across 322 Kmart and K Hub stores across the country.

The shock move comes three years after Kmart began offering Afterpay to online shoppers only.

A Kmart spokeswoman said the move aimed to give shoppers more flexibility in the lead-up to the stressful Christmas shopping period.

“Following another troublesome year, the Kmart and Afterpay offering in-store will provide budgeting relief to many families and individuals,” the spokeswoman said.

Social media users were sent into a frenzy after a post confirming the service had launched at one store was shared online.

Launched in Australia, Afterpay offers interest and fee-free payment plans for purchases made online and in-store.

Customers are able to buy items immediately and pay them off in four fortnightly instalments.

Until now, the service was only available online and not for Kmart’s in-store shoppers, despite high demand.
