A TRIP to Costco now covers all stages of life with coffins and caskets going on sale at its warehouses.

The retail giant started selling caskets out of selected stores last week, with ‘coffin kiosks’ set to be rolled out across the nation.

Costco Australia marketing manager Kyla White said the coffins would be sold alongside garden sheds and aircons near the store’s exit.

Ms White said life-size coffin samples would be built into the kiosk and members could use “detailed brochures” to make their selections.

“(The brochure) will be something that the members will have to look at and use to make their final decision,” she said.

“Once the supplier is ready they will be available to be ordered in store,” she said.

Costco’s range of 14 coffins and caskets will cost between $360 and $3800 and be sold alongside the store’s electronics, groceries, jewellery and household goods.

Ms White said the coffins, would be made by New South Wales based manufacture Scientia from a range of MDF and timber, and offer savings of “45 to 60 per cent.”

She said the coffins would be sent directly to homes or nominated funeral homes of members within 48 hours after they were ordered.

“They won’t be available in store ... but will be available by order.”

Ms White said Costco Australia moved on the example set by stores in America which had successfully sold coffins and caskets for “years”.
