Australia Day 2023 trading hours for major Aussie retailers

In case you need to pop to the shops on the public holiday this Thursday, here are the trading hours for many of Australia’s biggest retailers.

Analysis: Australia Day weather forecast

It’s that time of year again — the Australia Day public holiday, on Thursday, January 26.

You might be spending the day at a barbecue with mates, soaking up rays at the beach, or perhaps not observing the day at all. But if you find yourself needing to pop by the shops while you’ve got the time off work, we have you covered.

Here are the Australia Day trading hours for many of the country’s major retailers.

Woolworths stores will mostly be open on Australia Day, with a few exceptions.

Woolworths

Woolworths shoppers in all states will be in luck on Australia Day, but there will be some individual stores closures.

All stores will be open in Queenland and Tasmania.

Woolworths stores will be open across NSW and the ACT — except North Sydney and Eastlakes Metro.

Stores will open in Victoria except Bourke Street and Collins Square.

In Western Australia, all stores will be open except Esperance. WA shoppers should note most stores will operate on public holiday trading hours, not their regular hours.

All regional stores (except Millicent) and Rundle Mall are open in South Australia. Metropolitan stores in SA are closed.

In the Northern Territory, all stores are open from 8am to 8pm, except Gove (9am to 5pm).

Woolworths encourages customers to check the opening hours of their local store here.

Coles

There will be no changes to Coles store trading on January 26 in NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, Western Australia, Northern Territory or ACT.

In South Australia, only the following stores will be open: Victor Harbour, Mount Gambier, Whyalla, Murray Bridge Green, Rundle Place, Mount Barker, Port Augusta, Berri, Port Lincoln and Port Pirie.

Store trading hours may differ slightly from store to store, customers are urged to check with their local store or the Coles website to avoid disappointment.

Aldi

There will be no change to regular trading hours at Aldi stores in NSW, ACT and Victoria on January 26.

Queensland stores will have reduced trading hours, opening 9am-6pm.

Trading hours will vary store to store in South Australia and Western Australia, so customers are advised to visit the Aldi store locator to check if their local store will be open on the public holiday.

Kmart

Kmart stores will open nationally on Australia Day — with only a handful of exceptions — so you still have the option of spending the public holiday shopping to your heart’s content.

Many are opening or closing later than usual, so it’s best advised you check the hours of your local store before you head over.

There are a few Kmart stores that will not open in Western Australia and South Australia on January 26. The closed stores are Esperance in WA; and Firle, Tea Tree, Munno Para, Ingle Farm, Kurralta Park, West Lakes, Port Noarlunga, Marion and Churchill in SA.
