Questions about VW's emissions crisis

VW could face fines in the US of $US37,500 for each car that had software designed to cheat emission tests.

GERMAN carmaker Volkswagen AG admits that it rigged US emissions tests so it would appear that its diesel-powered cars were emitting fewer nitrogen oxides, which can contribute to ozone buildup and respiratory illness.

THE United Nations has described as "extremely troubling" Volkswagen's admission that it had equipped 11 million of its cars, globally, with devices to cheat emission tests and urged the auto giant to correct the situation.
