Australia's home building boom is at its end: Report

The boss of a South Australian building company, which is currently involved in multimillion-dollar projects in the state, has died suddenly leaving his family “devastated”.

John Indrizzi was the managing director of Exclusive Linings and would be remembered as an “amazing man” who had a “heart of gold”.

He had worked for the company for 12 years and was overseeing current projects including $450 million office tower project in Adelaide’s CBD and the $165 million Adelaide Airport upgrade, including the Virgin lounge.

His daughter, Josie Indrizzi, posted on Facebook that the family was “devastated” by his sudden “tragic” death.

“He was loved by so many and will be missed more than he will ever know,“ she said.

“As a family we will hold onto the good times tightly and keep them safely in our hearts.”

The post attracted more than 200 comments with many revealing they were “shocked” by the “heartbreaking” news.

Mr Indrizzi, who was 46, was remembered fondly by those on Facebook.

“John certainly fitted two lifetimes in one! Lots and lots of beautiful memories,” wrote one woman.

“Hearing the news left me empty … Dad, John was more to me than a friend, truly more as a brother to me, acted and treated me better than my own family, heart off gold, we spent 25 long years growing up together and I will never forget,” another said.

“Heartbroken is an understatement, he was a mate, a friend, and was always there for me, he will be forever missed but never forgotten,” one person said.

It’s the second tragic death that has shocked the Australian building industry this year.

Metricon founder Mario Biasin died unexpectedly in May at the age of 71, after reportedly experiencing mental health issues.

His death came just days before the firm entered crisis talks amid rumours it was facing financial difficulties, although it has continued to operate.

While Mr Biasin’s death sent shockwaves across the industry, his comments in a May 2020 podcast revealed the challenges the industry in general and Metricon in particular had been facing for some time.

“It’s been a rollercoaster ride to say the least,” Mr Biasin said at the time.

“I didn’t expect this Covid-19 to have the effect it’s had all around the world.”

The construction industry has been rocked by a spate of collapses this year with the latest residential builder Tozer Construction Group being court-ordered to go into liquidation earlier this month.
