Mining magnate Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest’s father Donald dies at home

Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest has paid tribute to his father after he passed away in his sleep surrounded by family.

Australian billionaire Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest’ father has died surrounded by family at his ancestral Western Australian home.

Donald Forrest, 95, died in the early hours of Sunday morning at Minderoo station.

His obituary said he “passed away peacefully in his sleep, knowing he was with people and places he loved”.Four generations of the Forrest family passed down ownership of the Minderoo station before they wer forced to sell it in 1998 after years of drought and debt.

Twiggy Forrest bought the cattle property back for his father in 2009 for $12 million.

The Forrest patriarch is survived by his wife Marie, sons David and Andrew and daughter Jane.

“He goes with the love, deep affection and enduring memories of all those whose lives his 95-year history has embraced,” his obituary read.

“His legacy will be cherished by all who knew him.”

A celebration in honour of Don‘s life will be held at Minderoo station on Sunday, October 1 and a memorial service for the broader community of his family and friends will be hosted in Perth.
