Qantas boss Alan Joyce marries partner Shane Lloyd in glitzy Sydney Harbour wedding

He raked in $24m as the highest-paid CEO in Australia last year. And Qantas boss Alan Joyce hasn’t cut corners with his Sydney wedding.

Emotional moments of the same-sex marriage debate

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce married his long term partner Shane Lloyd in a ceremony overlooking Sydney’s famous harbour on Saturday.

The pair tied the knot on the rooftop of The Museum of Contemporary Art in Circular Quay in front of about 120 family, friends and business executives.

Joyce was a key campaigner for same-sex marriage — personally donating $1 million to the campaign — and the nuptials came nearly two years after the Yes vote.

Former Governor-general Sir Peter Cosgrove was in attendance and gifted the couple a framed picture of the moment he signed the marriage equality bill into law.

“On December 8, 2017, I signed one of the biggest pieces of legislation of modern times,” Sir Cosgrove said, reports The Daily Telegraph.

“I normally signed every piece of legislation in my office, even important bills, but I decided to make a big deal of that one. I had the prime minister and lawyer present me with the bill to sign. I thought Alan and Shane would appreciate a memento of something so important to gay Australians.”

One of Joyce’s brothers, Maurice Joyce, flew in from Ireland to attend the ceremony.

Joyce and Lloyd have been together for 20 years and share a house in the inner-city suburb of The Rocks — nearby to their wedding location.

The Qantas boss — who’s the country’s highest-paid CEO, having raked in $24 million last year — wore a suit by Aussie-born designer Martin Grant, whose outfits were favoured by Meghan Markle during her tour Down Under last year.

Irish-born Joyce reportedly joked last month that his marriage was “the most expensive wedding of a Tallaght man” (Tallaght is a suburb in Dublin).

“We donated personally a million dollars to the (Yes marriage equality) campaign because we were massively outmatched by the church, who supported a ‘no’ campaign,” Fairfax reports Joyce saying at a Dublin Chamber of Commerce event.

“So I can probably almost with complete certainty say that my marriage in three weeks’ time is the most expensive wedding of a Tallaght man.”

Business titans in attendance included Jetstar boss Gareth Evans, Optus chairman Paul O’Sullivan, Telstra executive Michael Ebeid and former David Jones boss Paul Zahra.

Just a few steps below the airline boss’s glitzy nuptials at the MCA, the 70th birthday bash of Labor heavyweight Graham Richardson was also kicking into gear on Saturday night with a star-studded guest list including former prime minister Tony Abbott, talk back radio host Alan Jones and Labor leader Anthony Albanese.
