‘Get to the point’: Rachel Maddow mocked for milking Trump tax return scoop
THE biggest story out of Rachel Maddow’s Trump tax “scoop” was how long it took her to get to the point. The reaction was hilarious.
“WITH all due respect, not even my mother takes this long to get to the point.”
Rachel Maddow has been mocked on Twitter for taking an excessively long time to reveal Donald Trump’s tax return, after teasing the big reveal on her Tuesday night show.
The MSNBC host had earlier sent Twitter into a frenzy, saying she would reveal her scoop at 9pm Eastern Time. “BREAKING: We’ve got Trump tax returns,” Maddow tweeted.
As the program started, Maddow discussed the US President’s reasons for not releasing his taxes, saying “it ought to give you pause that his explanations have never made any factual sense”.
She argued interest in the details of the documents was not a partisan argument. “There are definitely personality-driven and petty reasons to be interested in the President’s tax returns ... but whether it’s for small reasons or big reasons, there has been unrelenting demand for him to release his tax returns,” she said.
But as Maddow’s lengthy preamble continued, veering into a wide range of topics pertaining to Trump’s trustworthiness, viewers began to get restless.
“Eighteen minutes in, she said she’d get to the tax return ‘next’ — and then cut to a commercial break,” The Hollywood Reporter wrote. “When she came back, she still continued to delay the big reveal through another commercial break.”
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Thank you Rachel Maddow for proving to your #Trump hating followers how successful @realDonaldTrump is & that he paid $40mm in taxes! #Taxes
