Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg book Lean In optioned for movie from Sony
IF YOU haven't read Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In yet, you've just gotten a reprieve. It's set to become a movie. But what is it about?
THERE is another Facebook movie in the works. Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, a newly minted billionaire, has just sold the movie rights to her book, Lean In.
Lean In was hugely popular when it debuted in March last year and kicked off another round of debate about women and inequality in the workplace. It's sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide.
So for those who meant to but never got around to reading the much-talked about tome, they won't have to. They can sit through a two-hour movie instead of wading through a 250-page book. The movie won't be biography of Sandberg but a narrative driven flick which will pick up on the themes of Lean In.
Sandberg's book encouraged women to "lean in" to corporate culture by taking more risks, seeking more challenges and finding the balance between motherhood and work. But she also came under attack for ignoring feminist values of collectivism and toeing the capitalism line.
The movie will be produced by Sony Pictures, which was the studio behind the other Facebook movie, Aaron Sorkin's The Social Network. No directors or producers are attached to the project yet but Nell Scovell has been tasked to pen the screenplay.
Sandberg's proceeds from the project is to be donated to her Lean In organisation.
