LARGER-THAN-LIFE business personality Donald Trump has come under fire after raising an equally big new sign baring his surname.

Mr Trump this week added the 6-metre-tall stainless steel lettering, backlit by LEDs, to the outside of his Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago.

However, the Independent reports that the mayor of the city, Rahm Emanuel, is not happy.

Mr Emanuel’s spokeswoman Kelley Quinn said that the mayor, “believes this is an architecturally tasteful building scarred by an architecturally tasteless sign,” adding that Mr Trump’s office has been asked to look into “options available for further changes” to the adornment.

Mr Trump, on the other hand, described the sign as both “magnificent” and “popular”, telling NBC News that he had received “tweets, letters and phone calls from people who just love [the sign]”.

The 269 sq metre sign is already about 20 per cent smaller than the property mogul had originally planned for it to be, under a deal with Mr Emanuel’s predecessor.
