Hilarious clip lampoons ‘I bought a Jeep’ campaign

TEG Sethi had so many issues with his Jeep Grand Cherokee that he decided it was a “lemon”, and he made this hilarious song clip to share his story.

I Bought A Lemon Jeep

BUYING a $60,000 car shouldn’t leave a sour taste in your mouth.

But Teg Sethi had so many issues with his Jeep Grand Cherokee that he decided it was a “lemon”.

And as the saying goes, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Or in Mr Sethi’s case, make a music video.

“I made a mistake, I bought a Jeep,” the 32-year-old businessman raps.

“I’m fighting for the whole lemon community ... I’m making lemon tang, I’m making lemonade, I’m making lemon meringue.”

Set to the tune of Redfoo’s New Thang, the Tarneit man’s song was his creative alternative to taking legal action against Jeep.

After purchasing the 4WD in 2013, it was beset with problems including burning smells in the car and steering which constantly pulled to the left.

The vehicle also went into limp home mode three times, leaving Mr Sethi’s wife and young son stranded in the car without power.

Jeep refused to offer a refund or replacement despite Mr Sethi’s desperate requests.

“I’m a fighter, I’ve always been a fighter,” Mr Sethi said. “This is one of those situations where I had to bring my A-game out. I brought out the big guns for this.”

He spent $8000 on the professionally produced music video after writing the song on a plane and recording it in his living room with a mate.

“I’m one of those guys who can sing in the shower but actually quite well, and after a few drinks at a party I tend to entertain people,” Mr Sethi said.

He organised dancers, a smoke machine, a man in a $300 life-size lemon suit and plenty of lemon bling for the video, which he uploaded to YouTube today.

“From a selfish perspective, I want my money back,” Mr Sethi said.

“From a non-selfish perspective, there’s a bigger picture ... We don’t have the appropriate ‘lemon laws’ in this country and consumers have to go to this extent to have their situations resolved.”
“I just wish I could see the expressions on their faces.”

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia said it would not discuss individual customers.

“If any customer has a query, complaint or issue they can contact FCA Australia at any time to discuss their situation and their concerns will be addressed,” the company said.

“FCA Australia takes our obligations to our customers seriously and their satisfaction is our number one priority. FCA Australia will continue to work on improving customer satisfaction and service.”
