LEXUS Australia has announced a recall of 10,800 cars built between 2005 and 2010 for a possible fire risk as a result of a fuel leak.

It is part of a global recall of 1.75 million vehicles, of which 759,000 are affected globally.

It is the first recall for Lexus Australia cars this year, although its parent company Toyota has issued seven safety bulletins so far in 2014, behind Jeep (nine) and Holden (13).

In particular the Lexus recall in Australia includes the Lexus LS, GS, IS, IS C and IS F vehicles built between September 2005 and August 2010.

A statement from Lexus said: “The recall is due to the possibility that the sealing property of the gasket between the fuel pressure sensor and the fuel delivery pipe could become degraded.

“If this occurs, fuel could leak past the gasket during vehicle operation, potentially increasing the risk of a fire hazard.”

Lexus says there have been no accidents, injuries or fires reported in Australia as a result of this condition.

Lexus says it will contact customers by mail at their last known address and ask them to make an appointment at their local dealer, where a new fuel pressure sensor gasket will be fitted.
