KINDLE Fire users will soon have a new way to buy stuff they want - using a new Amazon currency.

The virtual currency will work the same way as real money, allowing users to purchase apps, games, content and goods on the Kindle Fire tablet.

It is hoped that the new currency will help to increase downloads and advertising opportunities.

The Amazon Coins will launch in May, when Amazon will give away millions of Amazon Coins for free in a bid to get the new currency on a roll. Users can buy new coins using their Amazon accounts. At this point it looks like the virtual currency will only be available for use on the Kindle Fire tablet. We will have to wait and see whether it will also be available for use on Amazon.com and its other Kindle devices.

Developers will continue to earn 70 per cent of revenue on purchases made with Amazon coins. However only apps developed and approved by April 25 will be available to use Amazon Coins. At least initially.
