PLANAR Restaurant and Bar in Darling Harbour is set to host an unforgettable afternoon of fashions on the field, hosted by the fabulous Margarita Nazarenko, a great place to watch the race with gorgeous food and drink packages.
We caught up with Sophie Muir from the stunning Darling Harbour venue to find out why this is the place to be if you're in Sydney for the Melbourne Cup.
"Sitting flush on Darling Harbour, Planar’s alfresco setting is the perfect spot to soak up the sunshine, harbour and city skyline views while enjoying the excitement of the Cup," says Sophie. "We'll be hosting our first Fashions on the Field at this year’s Melbourne Cup party, with fashion and lifestyle blogger Margarita Nazarenko, who will also be judging the best dressed on the day with the help of a few special guests."
This year, s/he goes on, "there will be bottomless bubbles, beer and wine flowing, as well as endless delicious canapés, contemporary modern Australian dishes and desserts."So what is it about the venue that makes it just right for groups or events like the Melbourne Cup?
"Hollowed out like an exposed cavern below the Convention Centre, Planar boasts long planes of pearlised plaster carve out a harbour-oriented elevation inside the venue."
Sophie continues, "with panoramic views of the Sydney city skyline and gorgeous Darling Harbour, the huge space both inside and outside is perfect for parties and celebrating with friends. The backlit bar, suspended metal fireplaces and outdoor dining areas make this a very cool spot to settle into."
Signature Melbourne Cup cocktail:
“Our Lychee Rose Mojito is always a crowd favourite! However, our most popular and probably coolest looking cocktail is the Smoking Skull Head Devil’s Heaven, which features plum pisco, vodka, fresh watermelon, lime, cranberry juice and a dash of lemonade.”
And to eat?
“Our mini sautéed cauliflower with capers, yoghurt, coriander, onion, crispy peking pancake and pomegranate seeds is a must-try on the Melbourne Cup menu.”
At $85 per person for unlimited beer, wine and sparkling for three hours, as well as a lavish menu of many of Planar’s signature dishes, punters can enjoy the sunshine by the harbour while watching the live race on the big screens.
The delicious menu includes an array of canapés and substantial dishes that will be served throughout the afternoon (full menu below). Guests can find booking details here.
