Pop down to the Surry Hills Festival

On Saturday 22 September, Surry Hills Festival will present a fabulous celebration of all there is love about this dynamic urban community. Funds raised on the day support community programs presented by Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre.
Themed Spring into Surry Hills this year kicks off from 13 September with a series of unique activations in Ward Park, along Devonshire and surrounds. It’s bold, fun and gorgeous, celebrating founding of SHNCs the in the era of Flower Power (late 1960s/70s), SHNC’s role in connecting communities, seeding opportunities for locals and creatives to flourish.
Selected contemporary artists have been working with community to overlay Devonshire Street and surrounds with a curated trail of vibrant and engaging projections, and pop up installations transforming the heart of Surry Hills into a network of inspiration and discovery for the Spring into Surry Hills initiative, running over ten days, 13 to 23 September. On Saturday 22, the festival will culminate in a fantastic spring celebration with great live music, interactive arts, creative trail tours, markets and more.
Dolar Shop serves Macanese hotpot

Chinese Macanese hotpot eatery Dolar Shop has finally opened its first Australian outpost at the new 1909 Dining Precinct at Market City. Serving up sumptuous hot pot feasts inspired by Macau’s prolific culinary culture which fuses Portuguese and Cantonese flavours and cooking techniques. The 200-plus seat restaurant is serving a rotating seasonal menu is rich with flavours of the ocean, from snow crab to Sydney rock oysters, Tasmanian red lobster, big eye ocean perch and Dolar Shop’s signature shrimp pate.

Retro book swap
Where: Paddy’s Markets, Haymarket
When: 10am - 6pm Wednesday to Sunday
Paddy’s Markets has launched a book swap library. You are invited to grab a book to keep, as long as you replace it with another. The library is a great place to relax and recharge – you can pull up a chair and listen to some old-school vinyls in this cool new retro-inspired space.

Global Rhythms Music Festival

The annual Global Rhythms Music Festival, a main event in the Sydney Fringe Festival, offers a diverse range of music from Reggae to Blues, Latin, Rap, R&B and much more! The outdoor celebration on the grass verges of Glebe’s scenic Bicentennial Park waterfront is a perfect all ages event the whole family can enjoy. Not only does the festival offer a wide range of music, but there is a whole raft of international food and drink stalls to suit every taste.
Ghostly Garden
Where: Royal Botanic Garden
When: Friday 14 September, Friday 12 October, Friday 9 November 2018 from 7.30pm to 9pm
Experience a rare opportunity to take a twilight tour through the Royal Botanic Garden. This tour will take you for an eerie walk along dark, shadowy paths amongst the parks historic trees. Your host will tell you the spooky tales of the garden’s past, as the sound of bats fly from the trees above your head and yellow and green eyes peer at your from the surrounding bushes and trees. Tours being at sunset, the exact time will be confirmed when you book.
