Buy top tech gadgets cheaper
Today’s technology landscape is enough to send you into choice paralysis. For every phone, TV, tablet or gadget, there’s a mind-boggling amount of options.
It’s hard to picture a time without iPhones, MacBooks, wireless earbuds and drones. Rewind 15 years and technology was very different. You’d be forgiven in thinking it was a simpler time.
Today’s technology landscape is enough to send you into choice paralysis. For every phone, TV, tablet or gadget, there’s a mind-boggling amount of options (that can send you running into a Dick Smith’s just to be able to talk to someone).
But delving into modern technology should be exciting. Five influencers in the technology and design sector share their call out, number one gadget this year. The best part? You can go straight to eBay to get these items.
eBay Plus launches this month, which gives members free delivery and returns on 15 million products. Getting your technology gadgets just got a whole lot easier. And it’s a great excuse to give whomever you share a joint bank account with when they question if you really need that new item. If you’re not happy, you simply return it, for free.

What feels like far-fetched predictions now could well and truly become the norm, and much sooner than we can comprehend. Let’s just remind each other what Star Wars predicted (in 1975). Tablet computers, voice interface computers (g’day Siri), Google Glass, portable memory, GPS and teleconferencing, just to name a few.
With shows like Black Mirror showing us how AI, VR, automation and robots will (already are) a reality, you’d be forgiven for being downright freaked out. And while we don’t have George Lucas to predict the next 40 years, we’ve got a round-up of the best gadgets of this year from five of Australia’s technology experts.
Whether you want to up your travel video game (and become a ‘pilot’ yourself) with a drone, let your powerful little helper, Google Assistant, make life easier at home or enjoy silence while working in a noisy café (with noise-cancelling headphones), there’s a product for you.
Now, let’s hear from some of the brightest, technology whizzes in Australia.
Matthew Dunn: Tech Editor news.com.au
Matthew talks (and writes) tech all day, every day. But there’s one product he can’t get enough of – so much so that he wrote a story about it. “My go-to piece of technology is LG’s PF1000UW Ultra-short Throw Theatre Projector,” Matthew raves. And yes, it’s exactly how it sounds. A virtual, 100-inch television, you can carry in your backpack.
Matthew calls it a “compact TV replacement”, as it has a built-in VHF and UHF TV tuner to watch free-to-air, as well as the apps you would use on smart TV. It also projects high contrast full HD 1080p images. Put your favourite videos on your USB or use the antenna connector to view live TV.
Sam Davies: App Designer
Sam helps businesses embrace technology to run their operations more efficiently. He’s a big advocate of technology himself and can’t stop talking about the new Fitbit Versa Fitness Watch.
“I’ve been using Fitbit for years now. All of my employees have one and we have fun little competitions to encourage a healthy workplace. I love this new version because now I can check my apps, calls, texts, and events,” Sam says.
Fitbit Versa also has an internal memory for up to 300 songs, so you don’t need to carry around your iPhone for music when you’re on the go. It has over 15 exercise modes, which will automatically detect and track. This version also supports Guided Breathing Sessions based on your heart rate, to help you stay calm through stress.
James Stewart: Cryptocurrency Expert
Being in the start-up space for nearly a decade, technology and productivity is important to James. Now, he offers personalised support to Australians wanting to get into Bitcoin, Ethereum, Alt-coins and other Cryptocurrencies.
“I would recommend a Ledger Nano S, which is a cold storage wallet for crypto and the gold standard. This is a very important technology product for me,” James says.
Ledger Nano S is a Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum hardware wallet. It safely stores cryptographic monies and secures digital receipts and disbursements. Connect it to any USB and confirm each transaction, with it backing up all operations.
There’s one more product that’s received acclaim for one of the most highly anticipated for this year. The iPhone X. Yep, we can’t talk about technology without an Apple mention. It’s entirely screen and entirely cool, with its all-new 5.8-inch display. It’s got Face ID, wireless charging and is waterproof – yet it’s still the most durable of all its siblings.
