Tasting Australia returns for the 22nd year in April next year, featuring an “explosion” of eating and drinking across Adelaide and regional South Australia.

Celebrating South Australia’s produce from paddock to plate, the 10-day event kicks off 5 April 2019, drawing foodies and food lovers from all around the world to do what food does best: inspire conversation.

The program, created by festival director and world-renowned chef Simon Bryant and programming director Jock Zonfrillo, of three-hat Restaurant Orana fame, will see the World’s Best Restaurant-listed chefs host pop-ups in off-road wonderlands, the country’s leading winemakers, brewers and distillers descend on the city in droves, and the heart of Adelaide come alive with fresh flavours and gastronomic ideas.

A festival highlight is Tasting Australia Airlines, an all-inclusive, chartered flight where attendees can explore Kangaroo Island’s seasonal best and stunning vistas, try Coffin Bay’s freshly plucked oysters, and devour buttery, delicious, award-winning Wagyu beef from Mayura Station. There’s nowhere else in the country where you can fly to some of the best culinary regions and be back in the city in time for dinner.

The pop-up Glasshouse Kitchens is another flagship experience, bringing together local and visitor talent from the kitchen, farm and beverage world to create dishes that hero South Australian produce. Each year, chefs deliver a range of unexpected ideas, flavours and experiences that leave attendees hungry for more.

Festival favourite Town Square will remain a free, public space, while 100 events making up the program will offer tours, free art exhibitions, simple lunches, market discovery experiences and degustation-style dinners across the state.

Adelaide has enjoyed an illustrious history in the food and drink scene, establishing itself as the zeitgeist foodie destination the 1980s thanks to local heroes fusion cuisine Cheong Liew, beloved Maggie Beer and baker and chef Phillip Searle.

But today, Adelaide reclaims its mantle.

As one of the country’s longest-running food and wine festivals, Tasting Australia has evolved with the industry, delivering innovative events and indulgent adventures that get bigger and better each year.
