What you need to know about I’m A Celeb contestant Natasha Exelby

Here’s everything you need to know about the I’m A Celebrity contestant, as this year’s cast heads into the jungle.

Biggest Reality TV Blow Ups

If you don’t know her name, you definitely know her face, and it’s probably because you’ve seen her hilarious on-air blooper that went viral two years ago.

Luckily for Natasha Exelby, 35, it didn’t do her career any serious harm, and she is now one of Australia’s most established TV journalists.

Working in Canberra as a political correspondent in Parliament House and then in Sydney as a senior journalist and anchor, Exelby has covered some of the biggest stories of the generation.

As Network 10’s United States correspondent, Exelby reported on the assassination of Osama bin Laden, and she has worked in Afghanistan and Syria, reporting from over 20 countries in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

But Exelby’s road to success hasn’t been without its share of ups and downs.

In 2013, Exelby was chosen to co-host Ten’s new breakfast show Wake Up, but just days into the role she was fired by the show’s executive producer, Adam Boland, in a carpark.

“At that point that was the toughest grenade that had ever been thrown at my career and I was pretty much wiped off the map.”

Exelby said her very public firing left her in a “really dark place” as she struggled with being suddenly unemployed.

“For me work is one of the things that keeps you well … I went into a really dark place, I don’t think that’s because of the sacking, I think all’s fair in love, war and TV. It was just I had time on my hands that I didn’t have before,” she said.

In 2017, Exelby went viral globally after she was caught daydreaming and playing with a pen while live on air for ABC News and has revealed the gaffe resulted in a harsh response from the broadcaster.

“They (ABC) took me off air; they said I couldn’t go on air again,” she revealed, adding that her next six weeks of on-air shifts were just “cut out” — and she was offered “producing shifts” instead.

In 2016, Exelby had started her own public relations firm, XLB Media, and while she didn’t expect to be on the client list, following that year she had little choice.

She now works with major political organisations, government bodies and elite sporting groups in the high-stakes world of public relations and media strategy.

Having travelled the world, Exelby should have no trouble entering the African jungle, and is going in there with a generous attitude.

“It’s in everybody’s interest for everybody to do well,” Exelby said. “If there’s someone in there who I absolutely hate, I’m still going to be cheering them on because they’re going to get a star which will possibly get me a chocolate.”

The charity Exelby is backing is Fearless, who help restore control to victims of traumatic stress.
