CANCEL your plans, order some take-out and get comfortable on the couch, because it’s going to be a cracker week of television.

There’s no shortage of exceptional content on the small screen, from drama to comedy and reality to film.

This is your special guide to the seven shows you simply can’t miss — with a few guilty pleasures thrown in too.

NEIL ARMSTRONG: THE ENIGMA EXPLAINED

He got in a tin can that shot from the ground and into the sky, hurtled towards a mysterious rock, put on a suit and got out. Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the moon, and his extraordinary legacy lives on today. This doco about his life sheds a bit more light on who he was, what inspired his ambition and the years that followed his remarkable achievement.

Sunday, 8.30pm, SBS

Honourable mention for guilty pleasure viewing:Bodyshockers on ABC2 on Sunday at 10.45pm. It’s basically people doing weird stuff to their bodies in the name of beauty. Tonight, a woman gets some serious lip implants she doesn’t need.

RAY DONOVAN

It’s the season three return of this hit US series about a fixer, or the guy hired by the rich and famous to arrange pay-offs for corrupt officials, cops and other criminals. Ray is back — and back in business. While he might be adrift from his family and those closest to him, at least he has his business. And he’s determined that it’ll succeed. Liev Schreiber is brilliant.

Monday, 8.30pm, showcase

Honourable mention for guilty pleasure viewing:Lip Sync Battle on Nine on Monday at 9.00pm. It’s pretty dumb but lots of fun. Celebrities battle each other in a mime-off of musical hits.

HOUSE RULES

It’s a reality renovation show where the primary focus is actually renovating, not manufactured drama. Tonight it’s a big reveal after a snap seven day challenge, to totally transform the home of a carer and the three kids she looks after. It’s a feel-good episode with a few jaw-dropping moments. But someone will go home, leaving just three teams to battle it out in the grand final.

Tuesday, 7.30pm, Seven

Honourable mention for guilty pleasure viewing:Embarrassing Bodies Down Under on Nine on Tuesday at 9.00pm. Ordinary people with extraorindary medical problems bare all for a team of doctors and a bunch of cameras. You won’t believe the sort of stuff you see.

HOW NOT TO BEHAVE

It’s Gretel Killeen and Matt Okine talking about modern etiquette and the rules we should follow when interacting with fellow humans in various scenarios. Tonight’s show focuses on how to behave in public. Like, what to do when you’re accosted by charity muggers. Or the tricky topic of personal space. There’s some good advice and a few funny moments.

Wednesday, 8.00pm, ABC

Honourable mention for guilty pleasure viewing: Beverly Hills Pawn on 7mate on Wednesday at 7.30pm. It’s amazing what people will try to sell or loan against, and this show chronicles the colourful people who bring their weird stuff into a Los Angeles pawn shop.

GLITCH

Okay, so last week I said the first episode of this new locally made paranormal thriller was a bit slow. Tonight it starts to pick up the pace. I was a bit sceptical about this series at first but gave it the benefit of the doubt, and I’m glad I did — I’ve got to say, I’m hooked. More pieces of the puzzle are revealed in episode two as another returned person, a mysterious and dangerous John Doe, makes his appearance.

Thursday, 8.30pm, ABC

Honourable mention for guilty pleasure viewing:Tattoo Nightmares on 7mate on Thursday at 8.30pm. For every good piece of body art, there’s a disastrous or deeply regretted one. This show is about fixing them.

THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW

One of my favourite chat show hosts ever, Graham’s guests could include a phone book and a house plant and he’s still make it funny. Tonight it’s an all-female couch with actors Carey Mulligan and Noomi Rapace, reality show judge Amanda Holden and singer Jessica Ware.

Friday, 8.30pm, Ten

Honourable mention for guilty pleasure viewing: Sex Rehab With Doctor Drew on ABC2 on Friday at 10.55pm. The man who pioneered the celebrity drug and alcohol treatment reality show is back with a new format, this time looking at sex addiction. If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re normal or not, watch this — you’ll feel a lot better about yourself.

BONDI VET

I relate a lot to cats. They’re lazy, enjoy eating, love a good sleep in and tend to get themselves into stupid, tricky and potentially fatal situations. Tonight, a moggy named Spidey plummets from a three-storey window. It’s up to the delightful Doctor Chris Brown to save him.

Saturday, 6pm, Ten

Honourable mention for guilty pleasure viewing: Real Angry Birds on Nat Geo Wild on Saturday at 7.30pm. It’s not that I don’t like birds — I just don’t trust them. And this show validates my belief. This doco is both fascinating and terrifying.
