Trailer for Julia Roberts’ first TV show Homecoming drops
THE allure of TV is proving too strong for every A-list movie star. Julia Roberts’ first TV series has dropped a teaser trailer.
JULIA Roberts never really did TV.
A few guest spots in the nineties on Law & Order, Murphy Brown and Friends and that was it. But like other movie stars, the allure of TV is proving too strong to resist.
At San Diego Comic-Con today, Amazon Prime Video debuted the first trailer for Roberts’s regular role in Homecoming, a psychological thriller also starring Bobby Cannavale, Sissy Spacek and Alex Karpovsky (Girls). The show will also reunite her with her My Best Friend’s Wedding co-star Dermot Mulroney.
Roberts plays Heidi, a caseworker at a shadowy facility that supposedly helps war veterans transition back into society. One of these soldiers is Walter Cruz (Stephan James). Her boss Colin (Cannavale) is ambitious and manic, just a little too much that you should question his real motives.
Four years after she leaves her job, starting a new life as a small-town waitress, she’s tracked down by a Department of Defense auditor who wants to know why she left. That’s when Heidi realises there’s a truth she’s been suppressing.
Homecoming is based on the podcast of the same name — the TV show was created by Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg. Mr Robot creator Sam Esmail will direct — the trailer is filled with shots of Esmail’s distinctive visual style.
Homecoming will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on November 9.
