Sacked actor Chris Noth killed off on The Equalizer
There will be no phoenix-ing for scandal-plagued actor Chris Noth, whose character has been written out in savage fashion on his TV show.
There’s no coming back from a fiery plane crash.
And there’s no coming back for scandal-plagued actor Chris Noth.
Noth, best known for his role as Mr Big on Sex and the City, was sacked from his ongoing role on TV show The Equalizer after he was accused of sexual assault by several women, allegations he has denied.
Even though his final appearance on The Equalizer was in early January, he was not written off the series until this week. And the producers and writers could not have chosen a more final exit – well, except maybe if he had died while riding a Peloton bike on a plane that was shot out of the sky.
Deadline reports that in the episode, his character, William Bishop, becomes victim to a maniacal and vengeful scientist with a powerful pulse weapon. That weapon is then used to target the plane Bishop is travelling on. Kaboom. Dead.
While Noth doesn’t appear in the episode – and the series also gives an explanation for his character’s absence from the past five episodes – the show makes it clear his off-screen death is real. There will be no miracle rescue from a smouldering plane wreckage.
Unless there’s a mysterious twin somewhere or a doppelganger cousin (we’re looking at you, Maddy Ferguson) or a secret clone, that’s it for Noth’s time on the crime drama.
Following Noth’s ousting from the show earlier this year, his The Equalizer co-star Queen Latifah told People, “Chris’s character is obviously a big part of the show and it was amazing chemistry. And my feeling is justice has to prevail regardless. I just want the right things to be done, you know?
“We are figuring out what we want to do creatively on the show and how we’re going to deal with that character.”
In December, four women accused Noth of rape, in alleged incidents dating from 2002.
Noth denied the charges and insisted the encounters were consensual but was dropped by his talent agency, fired from The Equalizer and edited out of a forthcoming episode of And Just Like That, the Sex and the City revival series which was rolling out at the time.
His Sex and the City co-stars Cynthia Nixon, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis issued a joint statement in which they said they supported the women accusing Noth.
The allegations came as Noth had fronted an ad campaign for Peloton, the exercise company whose share price plunged after his Sex and the City character died following a workout on one of its bikes during an episode of And Just Like That.
Noth was a mainstay on American TV. In addition to Sex and the City, Noth has had prominent and long-running roles in Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and The Good Wife.
