Hannah Gadsby’s new special is coming to Netflix in May
After becoming a global sensation for her Nanette special, Aussie comedian Hannah Gadsby is back. And now we know when.
You might laugh, you might cry and you might even feel transformed.
The good news is Hannah Gadsby has a new Netflix special coming! The bad news is it’s not for another six weeks – which, in our current moment of time standing still, feels like about six months.
Remember what you were doing six weeks earlier? Doesn’t that feel like two years ago now?
Gadsby’s Douglas will drop on May 26. Start marking your calendars, if that’s something you still do.
Gadsby became a global sensation when her stand-up special Nanette was released on Netflix in 2018. All of a sudden, as a country, we quickly and proudly claimed this person so many didn’t even know existed – it is, after all, a great Aussie tradition.
Nanette was hilarious, poignant and profound, a hybrid of stand-up and confessional, an emotional and bruising personal story about her experiences as a gay woman.
Gadsby was feted among the entertainment elite, and by audiences who found her honest and raw style easy to connect with. She even stole the show at American awards ceremonies with her dry, spare and doe-eyed sense of humour.
“Hard act to follow” is an understatement.
But follow she must – the world was crying out for more Gadsby.
Douglas is the show she toured with around the world in 2019, named after her oldest doggo. Netflix quickly snapped up the rights to film and stream it, which it finally will come May 26.
Gadsby’s live performances of Douglas garnered great reviews, with The Guardian calling it “rich and entertaining” while Time said she “took a hammer to the patriarchy”.
We can’t wait.
Douglas will be available to stream on Netflix on May 26 from 5pm AEST
